A Regency Fiddle Pattern Sterling Silver Basting Spoon London 1817

A Large Regency Fiddle Pattern Sterling Silver Serving Spoon - 1817. Hallmarked in London 1817 for Thomas Wilkes Barker.

Plain other than an engraved heraldic device to the face of the handle showing "a ram's head erased, charged with an inverted chevron", placed on a torse; this would seem to be the crest apportioned to the Ram family hailing from County Wexford in Ireland. 29.9 cm in length; bowl 5.4cm wide.

Excellent; one tiny dent approx 2mm wide to the bowl. 110 grams (just over 3½ troy ounces). I have been involved in the antiques business since 1971.

My career took a leap forward when I joined Bonhams in 1976. Some five years later I became head of the Decorative Arts department. This item is in the category "Antiques\Silver\Solid Silver\Ladles".
